| | Property Description | Petit Pourquet is peacefully situated in the gently rolling vine covered countryside of the Cotes de Duras, in the department of the Lot et Garonne, South West France.
Close to the hilltop town of Duras is St Sernin and the farmstead of Petit Pourquet, an ancient group of farm buildings in a most wonderful setting, with splendid views across meadows and woods to the hills beyond.
Although Petit Pourquet is in quiet countryside amongst fields of bright yellow sunflowers, it is ideally situated for a variety of holiday activities and there are lots of things to see and do.
A leisurely walk down the valley is the Lac de Castelgaillard, set in the St Sernin country park with its sandy beaches, bar and restaurant.
The nearby town of Duras, typically French and unspoilt, has a weekly street market with stalls selling colourful local produce. There are shops for everything, with pavement bars in the square and an ancient chateau with a fascinating museum of French life in the past.
Throughout the summer season there are many events that take place such as the Duras wine festival, an antiques fair and a spectacular firework extravaganza set to music with the chateau as its backdrop.
All around are family run vineyards, where you can visit to taste and buy their wines.
There are many interesting historic towns and villages, all within about half an hours drive.
Further afield, you can visit the medieval town of St. Emilion and sample some of its famous wines. On the Dordogne River is Bergerac, visit the old town to find the statue of Cyrano de Bergerac.
At Petit Pourquet you can relax in peace and tranquillity, with complete freedom to walk and explore its interesting old buildings, meadows and woods. For those who like fishing there is a large pond at the bottom of the drive.
On the farm there are sheep, rabbits, geese, ducks, chickens and a sheepdog called Guinness, he’ll be happy to take you to see the sheep in the field next to your farmhouse.
The farmhouse has been carefully and sympathetically renovated into holiday accommodation.
Set apart from the other stone buildings and with complete privacy it has been brought up to date with modern equipment and fittings, whilst still retaining its original character, allowing visitors to conjure up pictures of bygone days.
Suitable for either just two people or a family of five or six.
The large spacious rooms have natural stone walls with terra cotta tiled floors and exposed timber ceilings.
On the ground floor there is a large combined kitchen and dining room, with a farmhouse dining table and chairs, plenty of built-in cupboards with tiled worktops, cooker, refrigerator and microwave. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, crockery, cutlery and tea towels.
An even larger sitting room adjoining has a double bed, with an open staircase to the granary with its two rooms, each of which has two single beds…mind your head on the low original beams!
The light and airy bathroom is off the sitting room and fitted with modern shower, basin and toilet.
The farmhouse is comfortably furnished in an unpretentious attractive manner, with clean bed linen provided at the beginning of your stay.
Outside, is a terrace with table, chairs and barbecue. The extensive lawns around the farmhouse merge into the surrounding meadows and countryside.
There is a specially built, stone and tiled partly above ground pool, seven metres in diameter, which blends perfectly into the rural setting of Petit Pourquet.
Come and relax with a glass of wine, soak up the atmosphere and tranquillity of Petit Pourquet, far from the stresses and strains of everyday life | | Property Location | The property is in a very quiet location yet only a few minutes drive from Duras and other market towns. 80 kms east of Bordeaux and only a 40 minutes drive from Bergerac Airport served by a number of UK destinations. |
