House & Pool
|Property Name:||Les Granges Apartment|
|Location:||Charente, Poitou-Charentes, France|
|Prices:||from £200 to £300 per week|
Les Granges is a typical Charentaise farmhouse, retaining traditional features but offering modern accommodation. The Les Granges 'gite' or apartment has been created in one section of the main building. It is a neat and cool apartment set on two floors. It is ideally suited to a couple holidaying alone, but there is also a sofabed which could be used for a child.
Upstairs, the double bedded room overlooks the garden and pool and is south facing. The adjacent en-suite contains a shower, WC and basin.
Downstairs, the single open-plan space contains a kitchenette at one end with dining and lounging areas.
The kitchenette is equiped with a sink and drainer, fridge, microwave, kettle, small oven/grill and two electric rings. It comes with a reasonable range of cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery. Guests in the apartment are also welcome to use the freezer, washing machine and iron in the main house.
Please note the stairs leading to the bedroom area are open-tread and slightly steep, and may be unsuitable for anyone with reduced mobility.
The apartment opens directly into the garden and pool area. Here you can swim, or sit and soak up the sun. There are outdoor dining facilities and a barbecue. In the barn there is a table tennis table. There are bikes to take out if you fancy some exercise, or you could have a bounce on the trampoline. The garden is about an acre in total so there is plently of room to select your own choice of sunny or shady area to relax in. This is a peaceful spot and often the loudest sound you will hear is birdsong.
If you want a break from cooking, we will provide meals and can cater for special diets. See our web-site for further details.
Les Granges is set on the western side of the Charente region. This is an agricultural area, but the fields of wheat, maize, sunflowers and cognac grapes are on a human scale. The terrain is gently rolling, ideal for walking or biking. Small villages of white stone houses pepper the landscape. The nearest village provides boulangeries, 2 cafe/bars and small store. The town of Rouillac at 6 miles has supermarkets and most other facilities. The larger towns of Angouleme, Cognac and Poitiers are within easy reach and offer larger scale shopping together with historic sites and other attractions. The coast is some 90 minutes drive away, and there are good beaches and interesting off-shore islands to discover. Closer to home there are several swimming lakes which offer water temperatures of 28-29 degrees (bliss!).There are restaurants and markets in small and large towns throughout the region including the monthly market in Rouillac which is the biggest street market I have ever seen. As elsewhere in France the summer season is a succession of fetes, fireworks and other festivities.
We will do our best to help you make the most of your holiday in this lovely part of France.
